Timed mile revisited

So today- three weeks after our initial timed mile, on the first 100 degree day of the summer, we again tested ourselves on the track.

Running is a mental sport, and we’re all insane

How do you get through a run? The question ought to be “is running something you need to get through?”

Sunday, May 29: More weekend running

After discovering that I have a saving account (with money in it) and that I can withdraw straight from an ATM, I filled up my gas tank and headed to campus. I did the same five mile loop I did the other day but at a much easier pace. I guess I needed it. I didn’t get to running until 6:00pm so the temperature was kind of cool. The whole time I was wondering how all that money got into my savings account. Must have been the interest adding up for the past 15 years. Looks like my Beer-B-Q tomorrow is happening after all. Watch out loseit! I’m carbo-loading tomorrow!

Friday, May 27: 5 mile run

I ran with my friend Dillon today. He’s on the track team and I met him through school because we are both computer science majors. He was helping me with my laptop issues and even lent me his laptop (which I am using now to type this) until I get everything sorted out. The only conclusion we came to today is that the motherboard is not fried, but still have no idea what the problem is.

After looking at my laptop we headed to campus and he showed me some of the running trails. He told me it was about five miles. It’s hard work but it’s getting easier every time. It was over 80 degrees but I hydrated pretty well in advance and didn’t feel too bad during the run.

Thursday, May 26: 35 minute tempo run

Today Alex, Jim and I did a tempo run. The first and last mile were at a more relaxed pace, but over all it was pretty quick.

Alex dropped us pretty easily once the fast part started. He was pretty much out of sight.

On a side note, I finally got internet access at the new place, but with my luck, my laptop just got fried. At least I found a wordpress app on the android market to get these blog posts taken care of until I fix things.

Wednesday, May 25: Nice weather for a change.

I haven’t been good about posting on my blog because my new house doesn’t have internet access yet. (We just moved in last week- no hot water either.) Yesterday Comcast notified me that the equipment I ordered (modem, cable boxes) will arrive in 3-5 days. I’m pretty tech savvy so hopefully I can be all set up by the weekend without the aid of a technician. So for now I am trying to type away diligently in F-Wing while occasionally being distracted by the G-Wing construction.

First week of Running & Math

Life is the most precious thing that you can lose.

It’s been an emotional week for me. On Tuesday I lost my dog to a heart attack. He was my best friend and I miss him so much. It’s been hard for me to concentrate on anything else, and so I haven’t been able to update this blog.

Today concluded the first week of Running & Math and I’ve already learned quite a bit about running and overall fitness, nutrition and some numbers behind it all.

My first post

Me spending summer w my friends at the lake house

Hi I’m Joe and this is my first post on my GEN 1620 Running & Math blog.

I’m a casual runner and just like being fit. I’ve been running a lot since the semester ended because I’ve had nothing else to do, and I guess I’m in better shape than I thought.
